for 3 in $7.4M heist

LIBERTY — The three Youngstown people charged in the theft of $7.4 million from AT Systems on Tibbetts-Wick Road last November are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Cleveland. Roger Lee Dillon, 22; Nicole D. Boyd, 25, his girlfriend; and Sharon Lee Gregory, 48, his mother, were found by FBI agents in Pipestem, W.Va., on Dec. 1. Two safes at AT Systems, an armored-car company, were cleaned out after the Thanksgiving holiday. Dillon had been employed as a driver/messenger for the company.

Board sets meetings

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The New Castle Area School Board will have its regular public meetings at 6:30 p.m. the second Wednesday after the first Monday of each month during the 2007-08 school year, unless otherwise announced. Work sessions will be conducted at 6 p.m. on the Mondays preceding the pubic meetings. All meetings are held in the board room of the Croton Administration Building, 420 Fern St.

Garage fires probed

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Fire officials are investigating a fire that destroyed two garages. City firefighters were called to 708 Rear Cumberland Ave. at 1:23 a.m. Wednesday. According to police reports, two garages located next to each other were on fire when they arrived. Police said the garage on the west side was fully engulfed in flames while the one next to it appeared to have caught fire later. The second garage contained two antique cars. Police and firefighters have not identified the owners of the garages or the contents. Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours.

Drug prevention

CORTLAND — Parents of students in the Lakeview school district are invited to a presentation by a drug prevention speaker at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at Lakeview High School Auditorium, 300 Hillman Drive. Mike Kolic, who has worked with youths for 14 years, will talk about identifying risky behaviors, knowing the signs and symptoms of drug use, how to intervene when a parent thinks someone is using drugs and what parents can do to prevent use. Gun charges sentence

WARREN — A 48-year-old Youngstown man who had served 18 years in prison for an armed robbery is going back to prison for 41⁄2 years. Elwood E. Blair, of Roosevelt Drive, was sentenced Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court for two gun-related offenses. In one, Blair attempted to pick a fight with a co-worker at McDonald Steel in McDonald on Dec. 21, 2006, and pulled a gun on him, said McDonald Police Chief Lou Ronghi. Also, Blair pleaded guilty Oct. 23, 2006, before Judge W. Wyatt McKay to two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, one count of felonious assault with a firearm specification and one count of illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor-permit premises.

Judge positions

WARREN — Judges Diane V. Grendell and Mary Jane Trapp have been selected presiding judge and administrative judge, respectively, of the 11th District Court of Appeals. The presiding judge presides over all court sessions and represents the court at the executive sessions of the Ohio Courts of Appeals Judges Association. The administrative judge has the responsibility and control over the administration, docket and calendar of the court and is the general superintendent of the business of the court. Judge Grendell was first elected to the court in 2001 and was re-elected to a second term in 2006. Judge Trapp was elected in 2006 to her first term. The court serves Ashtabula, Lake, Geauga, Portage and Trumbull counties.
