Police arrest Girard resident in felony robbery of woman

GIRARD — City police took less than two days to find the man they believe responsible for knocking an older woman to the ground and injuring her nose while snatching a wallet.

Kerry Campbell, 38, was arrested at his Church Hill Road home Tuesday evening. He is charged with felony robbery.

Campbell appeared in Girard Municipal Court via closed circuit video Tuesday. His bond was set at $30,000, and he is being held in the Trumbull County jail. Campbell is due back in court Jan. 23.

According to police reports, a 71-year-old Amherst Street woman was coming out of the Trumbull Party Mart just before 11 a.m. Sunday holding her wallet. A man police believe to be Campbell knocked her to the ground and grabbed the wallet. The woman tried to hold onto the wallet but was overpowered.

The woman had a small cut on her nose and was also bleeding from the nose after the incident. She was treated by paramedics at the scene but refused to be taken to the hospital.

The woman and two witnesses told police the man ran to a green two-door Pontiac after snatching the wallet. A female was said to have been driving the car.

Court documents say Campbell was identified in a photo lineup by two people who saw the crime occur.

Police reports also say Campbell spent time talking to another customer at the store before taking the wallet. Police said they spoke with that customer extensively before obtaining a warrant for Campbell’s arrest.
