Poland cruises past Salem 94-64 in MAC


POLAND — The Poland High boys basketball team put 12 players in the scoring column in cruising to a 94-64 victory over visiting Salem in a Metro Athletic Conference game on Tuesday.

Niko Fatimus sparked the unbeaten Bulldogs (11-0, 6-0) with 19 points. Ben Donlow added 18 points, five assists and five steals. Ben Umbel finished with 12 points, while David Baker had 11 and 10 rebounds.

Zack O’Brien led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Jordan Strabala added 12 and he grabbed seven rebounds.

Niles 48, Struthers 47

STRUTHERS — Ryan Frantz scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Niles, which held off a late rally by Struthers.

Dan Rosenberger added 13 points for the Red Dragons (5-7, 2-4), who were outscored 16-11 in the final quarter.

Keith Karas scored 13 points, Nate Jacubec had 11 points and Nick Jacubec scored 10 for Struthers (5-7, 1-5).

Newton Falls 41, Girard 22

GIRARD — Todd Medallis scored eight of his 11 points in the second half as the Tigers outscored the Indians 27-6 over the final 16 minutes.

Marcus Fowler had 11 points and seven rebounds for Newton Falls (8-3, 5-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference).

Adam Charles had six points to lead Girard (1-10, 1-4).

West Branch 73,
Akron Springfield 53

AKRON — Steve McNeely scored 18 points, while Vic Pappas added 12 as West Branch ran away from Akron Springfield.

The Warriors (9-4, 6-3 (NBC) scored nine 3-point goals and were 21-of-26 from the free throw line and blew the game open in the third quarter, outscoring Springfield 23-10.

Lordstown 62, Mathews 57

LORDSTOWN — Scott Chaffee, Nate Rech and Jake DiEugenio of Lordstown (6-5, 1-5) shared 55 points and the three tied a school record making 11 3-point baskets as the Red Devils prevailed in the Northeastern Athletic Conference game.

DiEugenio scored 23 points, four of his baskets were 3-pointers. Rech, with four 3-pointers and Chaffee, with three 3-pointers, each scored 16 points. Chaffee pulled down six rebounds and had 10 of 19 steals, while Rech had six assists. John Scudier and Jesse Hardvall scored 13 and 10 points respectively for the Mustangs (4-7, 1-4).

Steubenville 73, Beaver Local 53

STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red rushed out to a 24-8 lead in the first quarter and The Beavers (1-11) weren’t able to recover. Ethan Russell and Brett Hunt scored 13 points apiece for Beaver Local.
