“The Pioneers of Television” (8 p.m., PBS): Need a little variety in your life? The “Pioneers of Television” series continues with a look back at when the genre was a ratings juggernaut. It begins with Ed Sullivan’s “Toast of the Town” and Milton Berle’s “Texaco Star Theater” and progresses through “The Carol Burnett Show,” “Smothers Brothers” and “Laugh-in,” among others.
“Reno 911” (10:30 p.m., Comedy Central): The kooky cops of “Reno 911” return for another season, once again making their beleaguered town safe for criminal activity. In addition to the usual oddballs, the season features guest appearances by, among others, Christina Applegate, Seth Green, George Lopez and Ryan Stiles.
“Under Construction” (9 and 9:30 p.m., DIY Network): DIY Network introduces its “Nailed At Nine” programming block with “Under Construction,” a new reality series that explores the world of big-city construction from the perspective of a small construction firm. Featuring Brooklyn native sons John DeSilvia and John Palanca, the series follows their daily dramas at Design Tech as they build, demolish, renovate and refurbish projects all over New York. It premieres with back-to-back episodes Wednesday.
