Kindergarten workshop scheduled for parents

BOARDMAN — The Mahoning South Catholic Schools Leadership Team will hold a “How To Prepare Your Child for Kindergarten” seminar at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke School, 5225 South Ave.

The program is open to all parents, regardless of where they intend to send their child to kindergarten. It will address concerns about preparing children for the start of school.

Teachers and principals of the Mahoning South Catholic Schools will conduct the seminar.

Schools are now beginning to accept registration for kindergarten for the 2008-09 school year, and many schools are offering all-day kindergarten with a full curriculum. Parents may not realize how different kindergarten is from daycare or preschool and should be prepared for the changes they and their children will experience.

Social and academic readiness, age requirements and motor skills will be among the topics of discussion.

The seminar will last about an hour and include time for questions.

This is the second year that Mahoning South Catholic Schools have offered the program. Member schools are St. Luke, Holy Family, St. Charles and St. Nicholas.
