EVANSTON, Ill. — Marscilla Packer scored 18 points and Jantel Lavender added 15 points and 12 rebounds to help Ohio State beat Northwestern. Leading 35-30 at the half, Ohio State (13-3, 4-1 Big Ten) opened up the second period with a 22-9 run to take a 57-39 lead with 10:18 left. Northwestern got no closer the rest of the game. Lavender scored seven points during the spurt. Freshman Amy Jaeschke scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Northwestern (4-13, 0-5). Meshia Reed added 11 points for the Wildcats.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Shannon Bobbitt scored 20 points, Candace Parker added 15 and Tennessee beat South Carolina for the 35th straight time. Tennessee (14-1, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) opened SEC play 2-0 for the 11th straight season. Parker, Tennessee’s junior All-American, showed why. She had the team’s second basket in a 9-0 start and added another bucket and two foul shots as Tennessee broke on top 17-5 with less than nine minutes gone. South Carolina never got closer than 10 points the rest of way. Ilona Burgrova led South Carolina (11-6, 0-2) with 16 points and a career-best 13 rebounds.

N.C. State 70
RALEIGH, N.C. — Erlana Larkins had 22 points and eight rebounds to help North Carolina defeat North Carolina State. LaToya Pringle added 16 points and a pair of key second-half baskets for the Tar Heels (16-1, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who led almost the entire way but didn’t put the game away until the final seconds. Shayla Fields had 17 points to lead the Wolfpack (12-5, 0-2). N.C. State couldn’t repeat its 72-65 upset of the then-No. 2 and Final Four-bound Tar Heels here last February, which came on an emotional night in which the school dedicated “Kay Yow Court” to honor its Hall of Fame coach.

AUBURN, Ala. — DeWanna Bonner had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Auburn snapped a three-game losing streak with a 82-52 win over Georgia. The victory was the Tigers’ first over a Top 10 team in five years. Auburn (13-4, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) had five players score in double figures and held the Lady Bulldogs (14-2, 1-1) to 30 percent shooting. It was Auburn’s first win over a Top 10 team since a 64-36 victory over No. 8 Arkansas in 2003 and the first under fourth-year head coach Nell Fortner. Ashley Houts led Georgia with 15 points, but she also committed nine turnovers.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Sylvia Fowles scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help LSU beat Vanderbilt. Fowles was playing in just her third game since missing a couple of games because of knee surgery. She made seven of 10 field goal attempts. With a one-time 16-point advantage trimmed to five, the Lady Tigers (13-3, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) held off Vanderbilt during the final six minutes. Leading 42-37, two free throws by Ashley Thomas and a three-point play by Fowles put LSU on top by 10 points. The Commodores (12-5, 1-1) came no closer than seven points after Fowles’ three-point play. Quianna Chaney scored seven of her 12 points down the stretch for the Lady Tigers. Erica White was the only other LSU player in double figures with 11 points. Reserves Jessica Mooney scored 15 points and Liz Sherwood added 13 for Vanderbilt.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Meg Bulger scored 17 points and Yinka Sanni added 15 as West Virginia held off Notre Dame. The Mountaineers led 31-11 at the half, holding the Irish to a school-record low in first-half scoring. It was West Virginia’s second win over Notre Dame in 17 games. The Irish (13-3, 1-1 Big East) lost to a ranked foe for the third time in as many games this season, accounting for all of its losses. Charel Allen was the lone Notre Dame player in double figures with 11 points.

AUSTIN, Texas — Shalee Lehning scored 21 points to lead Kansas State to an overtime upset of Texas in the Longhorns’ Big 12 home opener. Lehning fouled out with 1:24 remaining in the overtime period, but Kimberly Dietz made two free throws with 3 seconds left to seal the win. Brittainey Raven, who had 14 points, missed a desperation 3-pointer for the Longhorns. Ashley Sweat scored 20 points, Marlies Gipson had 16 and Dietz added 15 for the Wildcats (10-5, 2-0 Big 12). Ashley Lindsey led Texas (12-4, 0-2) with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

WASHINGTON — Jessica Adair scored 15 points and Kimberly Beck added 12 to help George Washington beat Xavier. Jazmine Adair added six points and 12 rebounds for George Washington (13-3, 1-0 Atlantic-10). Amber Harris led the Musketeers with 18 points.

NORFOLK, Va. — T.J. Jordan had 18 points and Old Dominion scored 26 straight points in the second half to beat James Madison.

OXFORD, Miss, — Shawn Goff had 18 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots to help Mississippi upset Arkansas.
Iowa State 84, No. 23 Colorado 77, 2 OT
BOULDER, Colo. — Alison Lacey scored 11 of her 27 points in the second overtime and Iowa State snapped Colorado’s 11-game winning streak.
