YSU tasks

Youngstown State University has been asked to take the lead in implementing several recommendations designed to improve higher education in the region while making it more accessible and affordable. YSU was part of the Northeast Ohio Universities Collaboration and Innovation Study Commission that crafted the recommendations. The university’s tasks include:

Explore the creation of a Mahoning Valley community college.

Establish a program for joint purchasing of medical coverage for nine schools.

Further develop the North Shore Graduate and Research Alliance to strengthen regional research programs.

Develop a pilot program to increase student retention and graduation rates.

Develop a specific funding request to provide targeted support for economic development partnerships in urban areas adjacent to campuses.

Persuade the Ohio Board of Regents to modify its required course “seat time” to facilitate the creation of collaborative online degree programs.
