plans legislative brunch
YOUNGSTOWN — The League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown will sponsor a legislative brunch from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Youngstown Club, 201 E. Commerce St.
The program will feature current government officeholders. Ken Carano, from Gov. Ted Strickland’s office, will serve as discussion facilitator. GIRARD — St. Rose School’s 2nd Annual Winter Carnival will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 27 at the school, 61 E. Main St.

Historical Society
to honor seven
LIBERTY — Seven Liberty women will be honored by the Liberty Historical Society for their contributions to the community during an event planned for Jan. 26 at St. Mark Church, Logan Avenue.
Among those singled out for recognition will be state Sen. Capri Cafaro, Trustee Jodi Stoyak, June Smallwood, Gloria Lang, Gretchen Reed, Fran Pettit and Rose Boehlke.
The event will include a cocktail hour beginning at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 and a program at 8. Music will be provided by That Kat in the Hat. Tickets are $15 each. For information or tickets, call (330) 539-6591.
Music and ‘Mardi Gras’ set
YOUNGSTOWN — “Mardi Gras” will be the theme of the next Sunday brunch and concert at Stambaugh Auditorium’s Christman Hall on Feb. 3. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m., and a cash bar will be available.
A Cajun brunch will be served at 12:15 p.m., and the lecture recital at 12:45 p.m. will be presented by Randall Fusco, professor of piano at Hiram College, and will feature the music of Louis Moreau Gottschalk, Enrique Granados, Frederick Chopin and Scott Joplin.
