The facts
The Trumbull County Child Abduction Response Team will have an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Newton Falls Community Center, 52 East Quarry St., Newton Falls.
THE STATISTICS:
An estimated 1.3 million children are missing annually in the United States. Of those, 59,000 are nonfamily abductions.
An average of 100 children are abducted and murdered by a nonfamily member each year in the United States.
Two-thirds of abductions involve sexual assaults.
When an abductor intends to murder his victim, 44 percent of the children are murdered within the first hour, 74 percent within the first three hours, 91 percent are murdered within 24 hours, 99 percent within the first 7 days, and 100 percent within 30 days.
The victim: female 76 percent, male 24 percent, white 73 percent, black 16 percent, other 11 percent.
Victim/abductor relationship: stranger 53 percent, known to family 39 percent, family member 9 percent.
Abductor/killer profile: 98.5 are male; 50 percent are unemployed.
