34 seek leadership of housing authority

YOUNGSTOWN — Robert Bush, former chairman of the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority board of commissioners, has resigned to pursue the open executive director position within the agency.

Bush, an assistant Mahoning County prosecutor and former Youngstown police chief, is among 34 applicants vying for the position vacated by Eugenia Atkinson Nov. 30.

Atkinson had served at the helm of YMHA’s 86 employees since 1998. She was earning $101,000 per year before her retirement.

The new director’s salary will be based on experience, said Frances Gray, board chairwoman.

Bush announced his resignation Dec. 28, according to interim director Michael Krause. Ohio Ethic Law prohibits those serving on public boards to seek employment within the agency he or she serves.

Krause, the former human resources director for YMHA, is also seeking the director position.
