Mother of 6 killed in police raid is buried

LIMA, Ohio (AP) — A mother of six who was shot and killed by a police officer during a drug raid was remembered at a church service and buried Friday.

The Jan. 4 shooting of Tarika Wilson, 26, by a SWAT team member outraged residents and prompted area black ministers to ask for more information on the raid so that residents can trust police again.

About 300 people attended Friday’s service, including Mayor David Berger, City Council President John Nixon and Allen County Sheriff Dan Beck. Local police provided security for Thursday’s viewing and Friday’s funeral.

Police have said the raid was conducted to serve a high-risk search warrant that targeted a man charged with a drug crime who lived at the northwest Ohio home. It concluded a long-term investigation into the alleged sale of illegal drugs out of the home.

Wilson’s 1-year-old son, Sincere Wilson, was injured and had a finger amputated in the raid. Her boyfriend, Anthony Terry, 31, was arrested on a charge of suspicion of possession of crack cocaine.
