Meeting to address funding for Trumbull agency

WARREN — Trumbull County Commissioner Frank Fuda and Probate Judge Thomas A. Swift are expecting U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, area state legislators and others to attend a county health and human services meeting at 2 p.m. Monday.

Judge Swift said the meeting will focus on the $3 million in funding cuts the Trumbull Department Job and Family Services received from the federal government in 2007 and further funding cuts possible in 2008 and 2009.

Among the questions that the heads of JFS and agencies such as Trumbull Lifelines and the Area Agency on Aging are asking is what can be done to prepare for and influence decisions being made at the state level, Judge Swift said.

Specifically, the agencies are closely monitoring the changes being considered by Gov. Ted Strickland for Medicare and Medicaid. The changes would come about in the state’s next two-year budget, which would go into effect in mid-2009, the judge added.

The meeting will be in the county commissioners’ meeting room on the fifth floor of the county administration building, 160 High St.
