Mass for Life

YOUNGSTOWN — Bishop George V. Murry will be the celebrant and homilist for the 10th annual Mass for Life at noon Jan. 19 at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave.

Before Mass, a vigil of prayer for life will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of Market Street. A youth rally for peace, life and justice will begin at 10 at St. Dominic Parish Center gymnasium and registration is required.

After Mass, the Knights of Columbus will host a free spaghetti luncheon.

Ciferno concert

BROOKFIELD — Tia Ciferno will be in concert at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Brookfield United Methodist Church, corner of Grove Street and state Route 7. An offering will be taken.

Documentary planned

CORTLAND — Cortland Trinity Baptist Church, 2576 McCleary Jacoby Road, will show “Let the Sea Resound,” a documentary about the growth of the Christian church in Fiji, at 6 p.m. Sunday. Dan Barker is host pastor. Child care will be available for 2-year-olds through the third grade.

About church property

GIRARD — Control of church property is an important issue in many denominations today. The nature of the church, denominational relationships and the effect of property ownership on local churches will be the focus of a discussion at 6 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Girard, 890 Church-Hill Road.

Society to meet

YOUNGSTOWN — The Society of St. John Chrysostom Youngstown-Warren Chapter will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave.

The speaker will be the Rev. Giles Dimock, an instructor at the Franciscan University of Steubenville and assistant at St. Dominic. The group will discuss a papal document on the traditional Latin Mass. The society is an ecumenical organization of Catholic and Orthodox clergy and laity.

Guest speaker

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Dr. Paul C. Paino, general overseer of Calvary Ministries Inc., International of Fort Wayne, Ind., will be guest speaker during services at 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Temple at Epworth United Methodist Church, 805 E. Washington St.

Global meditation

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Villa Maria Education and Spirituality will offer its second program in its ongoing Global Mediation Series with an exploration of the principles of Qigong. The program is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at Villa Maria Community Center. Qigong, is an ancient Chinese method of meditation and wellness. The workshop will introduce three forms of qigong meditation: Fangsong gong for deep relaxation, Guanqifa for boosting the immune system and Qiantian gong or Embryonic breathing to return to the abiding calm and security of the child in the womb. An instructional DVD of these three forms will be available.

Master Nick Gracenin, one of the first generation of non-Chinese master teachers, instructs beginning and advanced Tai Chi for the UPMC Center for Integrative Medicine in Pittsburgh, Catholic Charities of Pittsburgh Diocese and several classes in Mercer and Lawrence counties.

Flame Fellowship

BOARDMAN — Greater Youngstown Chapter of Flame Fellowship, an interdenominational ministry, will meet Jan. 21 at the Georgeanna Parker Activity Center at Boardman Township Park.

Fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the ministry at 7. Guest speaker will be Pastor Edie Smith of El Shaddai Dominion Ministries.
