Canfield bounces Salem, 73-34; Campbell, Poland post MAC wins


SALEM — Brian Fox, Matt Keating and Andrew Kuchmaner scored 13 points apiece Friday as the Canfield High basketball team defeated Salem, 73-34, in a Metro Athletic Conference game.

Canfield connected on 30-of-56 shots for 53 percent, improving to 9-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

Canfeld rushed out to a 25-3 lead in the first quarter and increased that margin to 47-8 at the intermission.

Austen Hutton led the Quakers (6-5, 1-4) with nine points.

The Cardinals grabbed 39 rebounds with Fox grabbing 10.

Salem pulled down 15 rebounds.

Campbell 56, Niles 38

NILES — Heading into the fourth quarter, the MAC game was tied 35-35. Then the Red Devils (8-2, 3-1) broke it open with a 19-3 surge in the final eight minutes for the victory.

Antwan Dawson sparked Campbell with 20 points. Nate Hodge chipped in with 16 and Jerahmie Williams had 12.

Vince Melillo and Ryan Frantz led the Red Dragons with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Poland 81, East Liverpool 44

EAST LIVERPOOL — David White led the Bulldogs (10-0, 5-0) with 11 rebounds. Anthony DeFelice had five steals and Bryan Kosec made five assists.

The Potters are 4-7, 1-4.
