Teens arrested in thefts

CANFIELD — Numerous items stolen from unlocked cars over the New Year’s holiday weekend were recovered and three teenage boys — all from Canfield — have been arrested.

The boys were taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center to face charges of receiving stolen property.

Sheriff Randall A. Wellington said items recovered include eight global positioning satellite units, two radar detectors, two iPod docking stations and a Sony Handycam, XM radio, DVD player and 150-watt power inverter. The sheriff said detectives from his department worked with Canfield police.

The thefts occurred in the city and township.

Canfield waterline break

CANFIELD — A waterline break Tuesday on Dartmouth Drive is responsible for discolored water in the system, the city administration says. Residents can boil water for consumption as a precaution. The only way to remove the discoloration is by running water.

Wind causes outages

High winds Tuesday night and Wednesday morning that brought down power lines resulted in outages for roughly 7,000 customers in the Eastern Region of First Energy that includes eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, said spokesman Paul Harkey.

Most of the outages occurred in Warren and Kinsman in Trumbull County in Ohio and Mercer and New Castle in Mercer County in Pennsylvania, he said. Less than 500 of the outages affected customers in the Youngstown and Salem areas.

Harkey said trees and limbs coming down on power lines accounted for 90 percent of the outages. Extra crews were being brought in Wednesday to restore power.

Body is identified

BERLIN CENTER — A body found around 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 17000 block of Mill Road has been identified as 55-year-old Virginia Kicula, according to the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department.

Kicula, of Bedell Road, had been reported missing Oct. 24, 2007, by her husband, said Sheriff Randall A. Wellington. He said it appears Kicula had been sitting on cement blocks and fell down a hill when she stood up.

The body had been covered with leaves, which blew away in Tuesday’s high winds, he said. Foul play is not suspected, the sheriff said, adding more will be known after an autopsy.
