Salem council fills at-large position
SALEM — Salem City Council has named Dan Nye to temporarily fill the at-large council position formerly held by Earl A. “Bud” Schory II.
Schory has resigned to become eligible to get health benefits through the Public Employees’ Retirement System Health.
Schory has served before on council and served as city law director. He has had a number of medical problems in recent years.
Schory, who is technically retiring, will be able to return to office in two months.
Both Nye and Schory are Democrats. The vote was on party lines, with the four Democrat councilmen voting in favor of the move.
Nye lost a bid last year to be elected the city’s 1st Ward councilman.
Nye has said he will resign when Schory is ready to return.
