Buhl Farm Casino to get federal funds

The casino opened to the public in 1915.

HERMITAGE, Pa. — U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-3rd, announced the inclusion of $294,000 in federal funds for renovations at the Buhl Farm Casino in the Omnibus Appropriations Bill.

The bill for fiscal year 2008 was signed into law Dec. 26.

“For more than 90 years, the Buhl Farm Casino has served as a staple in the Mercer County community, helping to bring together local families and friends for a variety of social gatherings and community activities,” English said.

“Today, I am delighted to announce funding that will help preserve the Shenango Valley’s history and ensure future generations can continue to experience the joys of our local community center.”

English requested the funding as part of the Buhl Farm Trust’s long-term plan to renovate and rebuild the Buhl Farm Casino.

The casino, at Buhl Farm Park, originally opened to the public in January 1915. The imposing structure has been the showpiece of the 350-acre park, and although still in use, the deteriorating condition of the Casino jeopardized the building’s safety.

The $294,000 in federal funds will be used to remodel and renovate the building to meet modern-day building codes and regulations.

“By increasing access and updating the structure, the Buhl Farm Casino will be able to continue to serve its intended use as a social center for local residents,” English added.
