Temperature sets record for second day in a row


Tuesday’s high temperature was 66 degrees.

For the second consecutive day, the Mahoning Valley broke the record for the highest temperature.

The Valley hit 66 degrees at 1:46 p.m. Tuesday, making it the warmest Jan. 8 on record. The former high temperature was 58 degrees in 1965.

On Monday, the high temperature was 63 degrees at 4:40 p.m., eclipsing the old record of 58 degrees in 1998 for Jan. 7.

The National Weather Service had originally indicated the high on Monday was 62 degrees at 3:59 p.m., but revised it to 63 degrees.

The average temperature for this time of the year in the Valley is 25 degrees.

The temperature is expected to be above normal through at least Tuesday, but it won’t approach records, according to the National Weather Service.

Today’s high is expected to be in the low 40s. But the forecast also calls for winds gusting to 20 to 30 mph, and a 30 percent chance of rain.

There is a 50 percent chance of snow showers Friday night and a 30 percent chance of snow showers Saturday and Sunday.
