NHL ROUNDUP \ Tuesday’s other games

Blues 6, Blue Jackets 1

ST. LOUIS — Andy McDonald scored two goals and had an assist to lead St. Louis over Columbus. It was the first time the Blues had scored more than five goals in a game since Dec. 9 when they lost 9-5 at Colorado. David Backes scored the only goal of a relatively listless first period. Backes scored at 8:31 beating Columbus goalie Fredrik Norrena for his fifth goal of the season. Norrena was starting in place of regular Columbus goalie Pascal Leclaire, who was scratched with a viral infection. Two of Leclaire’s NHL leading seven shutouts this season are against St. Louis. Norrena (6-10-3) made 25 saves on 31 shots in the loss. McDonald gave the Blues a 2-0 lead midway through the second period. Defenseman Jay McKee flipped the puck out of his own zone to rookie David Perron. Perron stopped quickly in the left circle and set up a streaking McDonald who whistled a wrist shot past Norrena for his sixth goal. It was McDonald’s first goal in his last five games. He also missed an additional four games with a pulled chest muscle. McDonald scored his second goal of the night and seventh of the season just 1:25 into the third period on a slick pass from Brad Boyes. McDonald one-timed it past Norrena. Columbus’ only goal came when Rick Nash took a Joakim Lindstrom pass from the right side and beat Manny Legace for his 22nd goal of the season. It was the first goal Legace had allowed in 187:39, a team record. Legace (16-10-2) made 17 saves facing 18 shots. Keith Tkachuk and Perron put the game away with Tkachuck scoring his 10th goal of the season on the power play at 10:25 of the third period and Perron scoring 2 1/2 minutes later for his ninth goal to give the Blues a 5-1 lead.

Hurricanes 1, Bruins 0

BOSTON — Cam Ward stopped 19 shots for his third shutout of the season and Eric Staal scored the only goal to lead Carolina over Boston. The win was just the third in eight games for Carolina. Tim Thomas made 27 saves for Boston. It was the Bruins’ first home shutout since Colorado beat them 2-0 last March.

Flyers 4, Thrashers 1

ATLANTA — Jeff Carter scored two goals within a span of 13 seconds in the second period and Philadelphia beat Atlanta for the eighth straight game. Scott Hartnell added the 100th goal of his career with one second left in the period for a 4-1 lead. Hartnell’s short-handed goal came off a pass from James Dowd. Ilya Kovalchuk’s league-leading 35th goal midway through the opening period gave the Thrashers a 1-0 lead.

Red Wings 1, Avalanche 0

DETROIT — Dominik Hasek made 19 saves for his second consecutive shutout, and 79th of his career, and Pavel Datsyuk scored the game’s only goal to lift Detroit over Colorado. Hasek has a 134-minute, 13-second scoreless streak for league-leading Detroit, which has 18 wins in its last 21 games.

Canadiens 4, Blackhawks 3, OT

MONTREAL — Guillaume Latendresse scored 3:18 into overtime to give Montreal a victory over Chicago. Latendresse put Maxim Lapierre’s pass into an open left side to give Montreal its first home overtime win this season. Patrick Lalime stopped 34 shots for Chicago, which extended its season-high losing streak to six (0-5-1).

Lightning 5, Rangers 3

NEW YORK — Chris Gratton broke out of a season-long scoring slump with two goals and an assist, and Tampa Bay snapped a seven-game losing streak. Defenseman Doug Janik and Vaclav Prospal also scored for the Lightning, who led 4-1 late in the second period before they nearly gave it away with a series of penalties. Jaromir Jagr, Scott Gomez and Michal Rozsival scored for New York.
