Man shot in stomach during home invasion

Police found the victim on the kitchen floor.

YOUNGSTOWN — A man who was shot in the stomach in a home invasion was in critical condition Wednesday night at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Phillip Johnson, 27, of East Dewey Avenue, was shot around 3:38 p.m. Wednesday in the kitchen at 931 McHenry St. Police found him on the kitchen floor.

Witnesses said two men burst through the front door while two more kicked in the back door at the home, a police report says.

A neighbor told police he saw a group of people arguing in the driveway at the house shortly before witnessing the men break in.

Witnesses in the home and the victim identified a man as the shooter, and police were searching for him Wednesday night.

Police had made three arrests and charged the men with carrying concealed weapons.

They were arrested on Verona Avenue after a fugitive task force officer said he saw their car fleeing the area right after the shooting, the report says.

In custody are Steven L. Belcher, 33, of East High Street, Youngstown; Jason L. Harmon, 17, of Verona Avenue; and Sirtan E. Alli, 19, of Woodside Avenue, Youngstown.

Belcher and Alli were taken to the Mahoning County jail. Harmon was taken to the juvenile justice center.

Police questioned and released a female who was driving the car.

A search of the car turned up a loaded pistol, and two revolvers, the report said.
