High winds knock down power in Mahoning, Shenango valleys
High winds overnight that brought down power lines resulted in outages for roughly 7,000 customers in the Eastern Region of First Energy that includes eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, said spokesman Paul Harkey.
Most of the outages occurred in Warren and Kinsman in Trumbull County in Ohio and Mercer and New Castle in Mercer County in Pennsylvania, he said.
Less than 500 of the outages affected customers in the Youngstown and Salem areas. Harkey said trees and limbs coming down on power lines accounted for 90 percent of the outages.
Extra crews were being brought in today to restore power.
