Blinsky leads Columbiana’s 83-63 win


COLUMBIANA — Joe Blinsky’s 17 points Tuesday helped the Columbiana High basketball team remain atop the Inter Tri-County League Tier One standings with a 83-63 victory over Mineral Ridge.

Ryan Williams scored 14 points for the Clippers (10-1, 7-0). Columbiana jumped out to a 50-29 lead at halftime.

For the Rams (4-6, 3-4), Kevin Blinsky scored 14 points and Andrew Tirpak had 11.

United 54, South Range 48

HANOVERTON — Jimmy Phillis had 21 points for United, which used its first-quarter advantage to survive the middle quarters before emerging on top.

United (7-3, 6-1 ITCL Tier One) converted one fewer field goal (21-22) than South Range, but the Golden Eagles sank eight of 19 free throws to four of 12 for the Raiders (3-9, 1-6 Tier One).

Joe Mihlan’s 16 points paced South Range.

Springfield 52, Crestview 39

NEW WATERFORD — The Tigers (8-3, 5-2 ITCL Tier One), ahead 29-23 at intermission, put the contest out of reach with a 14-5 surge in the third quarter.

Todd Kibby sparked the Tigers with 23 points. Nate Schuler added 13. Jakob Leon and Mark Einsiedel each scored 11 points for the Rebels (4-7, 2-5).

East Palestine 53, Lisbon 37

LISBON — The Bulldogs (8-3, 4-3 ITCL Tier One), ahead 36-27 after three quarters, outscored the winless Blue Devils (0-12, 0-7) 17-10 in the finals eight minutes of the ITCL Tier One game.

Ben Gysin scored 25 points and he pulled down six rebounds for the Blue Devils. Wes Best added 12 points and Nick DiCello had seven assists. Arlan Bailey sparked the Blue Devils with 20 points.

Wellsville 75, Lowellville 62

LOWELLVILLE — Jeremy Carter poured in 24 points and Zane Carter had 22 for Wellsville, which had a hot-shooting first half en route to staying unbeaten through 12 games.

For Lowellville, which fell behind early and couldn’t catch up, senior guard Jim Sudon had 28 points, while sophomore guard Mauro Amendola scored 20.

Sebring 48, Western Reserve 35

BERLIN CENTER — Devin Weekly’s 15 points led the Trojans (8-3, 6-1 ITCL Tier Two).

Justin Wade scored 12 points to keep Sebring a game behind first-place Wellsville. Zach Tieche scored eight points and made eight rebounds. Allen Jurica had seven assists.

For the Blue Devils (4-7, 2-5), Nate Lude had 15 points and nine rebounds. Shane Ewing scored 13 points.

McDonald 79, Leetonia 60

LEETONIA — The Blue Devils (9-2, 5-2) broke open a close Tier One game with a 25-9 surge in the fourth quarter.

Adam Streb scored 26 points for the Blue Devils. Lance Ronghi added 25. Leading Leetonia (3-9, 1-6) was Josh Selway with 12 points, four assists and four steals. Kaid Todd added 12 points, and Tom Orr had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Southern 95, Jackson-Milton 66

NORTH JACKSON — Ethan Elatch tossed in 28 points including eight 3-point goals as Southern rolled easily past Jackson-Milton.

The Indians (9-3, 4-3 ITCL Tier Two) had three others in double figures including Tyler Baker with 19, Andrew Diaz 14 and Darren Mills 11.

Jackson-Milton (0-12, 0-7) was led by Jeff Balent with 17 points and Ben Carlile added 15.
