YSU’s Barber named player of the week

YOUNGSTOWN — YSU senior forward John Barber was named men’s basketball player of the week by the Horizon League Monday.

Barber, from Detroit, averaged 21 points and 10.5 rebounds in the Penguins’ victories over Illinois-Chicago and Loyola.

Against UIC, Barber had career highs of 24 points and 15 rebounds, and against Loyola, he finished with 18 points and six rebounds.

Barber also had two steals and two assists and played 77 minutes in the two games combined. He was 15-of-29 from the field and 10-of-12 at the foul line.

For the season, Barber is averaging 13.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. He is YSU’s first player of the week winner this season.
