Mercer commissioners choose ex-banker Hofius as chief clerk


MERCER, Pa. —Banker Tim Hofius has been named the new chief clerk for the Mercer County commissioners..

Hofius has worked in banking in Mercer County for 30 years, most recently as vice president/branch manager at McDowell Bank. He will be paid $26,409 annually. He also made an unsuccessful first run for public office when he was on the ballot last year for county recorder of deeds.

Hofius is a Sharon native, graduated from Sharon High School in 1971 and from Cleary University, Ypsilanti, Mich. He and his wife, Ann, live in Hermitage.

Also at the meeting Monday, commissioners elected the lone incumbent commissioner, Brian Beader, chairman. Commissioner Kenneth Ammann was named vice chairman, and Commissioner John Lechner secretary.

Atty. William Madden was rehired as commissioners solicitor and Atty. William McConnell as assistant solicitor. Each will be paid $40,000 annually plus benefits.

The commissioners consolidated the agenda review meeting and chief clerk meeting into one Work Session/Agenda Review meeting to be held 9 a.m. each Wednesday in the county courthouse, starting this week. Commissioners regular meetings remain at two Thursdays per month at 10:30 a.m. beginning this week.
