Elderly man attacked on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN — An 84-year-old Shady Run Road man punched by an intruder who took his wallet was taken to a hospital to be checked for internal injuries, police said.

The victim told police he heard a sound at his back door of his South Side home at 5:20 p.m. Monday and when he approached the door the intruder pushed in, demanded money and threatened to kill him.

The victim gave up his wallet after the suspect tried to tie him up. The suspect is described as a 30-year-old white man about 6 feet tall and 250 pounds with a round face, pointed chin and strawberry blond hair. He may have been driving a late 1980s or early 1990s Chrysler.
