SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Angie Bjorklund matched a career-high with seven 3-pointers for 21 points and Candace Parker added 20 points to lead Tennessee over Notre Dame. Tennessee (12-1) improved to 19-0 all time against the Irish (12-2), who had their winning streak stopped at 10 games. Nicky Anosike added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Vols and Alexis Hornbuckle had 10 points. Charel Allen led the Irish with 17 points and Devereaux Peters had 10 points and eight rebounds.
No. 4 North Carolina 99, Georgia Tech 78
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Rashanda McCants scored 19 points and Jessica Breland added 18 to help North Carolina beat Georgia Tech in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams. Jacqua Williams set an ACC record with 11 steals, but the Yellow Jackets (13-2) failed take advantage of North Carolina’s season-high 32 turnovers, making just 29 of 78 shots. Rebecca Gray and Cetera DeGraffenreid each added 12 points for North Carolina (14-1). Erlana Larkins and LaToya Pringle scored 10 apiece. Larkins also had 10 rebounds, helping North Carolina to a 41-39 edge on the boards. Williams and Alex Montgomery led Georgia Tech with 14 points each. Janie Mitchell and Chioma Nnamaka both had 13, while Iasia Hemingway chipped in 12 points.
No. 6 Rutgers 58, St. John’s 50
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Epiphanny Prince scored 15 points to lead Rutgers to a win in its Big East opener. Essence Carson added 13 for Rutgers (11-2), which won a season-high sixth straight game. The Scarlet Knights improved to 7-0 in Big East openers at home. Monique McLean scored 13 points and Sky Lindsay added 11 to lead St. John’s (9-5, 0-1). Kia Wright scored nine points and had nine assists for the Red Storm. She moved into sixth place on St. John’s all-time scoring list, passing Jackie Smith, who finished her career with 1,298 points.
No. 17 West Virginia 79, South Florida 73
TAMPA, Fla. — Olayinka Sanni scored 23 points and Sparkle Davis had 22 to leading West Virginia over South Florida in the Big East Conference opener for both teams. Meg Bulger added 16 points for West Virginia (11-2). The Mountaineers, who have won eight of nine, were coming off a 79-66 loss to Indiana on Dec. 22. Shantia Grace had 25 points for South Florida (10-4), which has lost two in a row following an eight-game winning streak.
No. 25 Arkansas 80, Texas Tech 57
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Ayana Brereton scored 16 points to help Arkansas improve to 15-0, the best start in team history. The 15 straight wins is also a school record for the Lady Razorbacks, who opens Southeastern Conference play at home Thursday against No. 11 LSU. Charity Ford had 12 points for Arkansas. Lauren Ervin, Whitney Jones and Brittney Vaughn each added 11, and Sarah Pfeifer scored 10. Ervin added 11 rebounds and Jones had 10 for Arkansas. Dominic Seals had nine points — well below her season average of 14 points per game — for Texas Tech (12-2), which opens Big 12 Conference play at home against Baylor on Thursday.
