MERCER COUNTY \ Sentencings
Several people were sentenced to prison or received probation last week in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.
Gary Minteer, 20, of East Fall Street, New Castle, sentenced to one to 12 months in the Mercer County Jail for criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking. Court documents state that on Feb. 7 or 8, 2007, he took cash and coin boxes worth up to $200 at Reynolds Laundry, 3676 N. Hermitage Road, Pymatuning Township. He also deliberately damaged a pop and a game machine at the laundry.
Michael White, 37, of Sterling Avenue, Sharon, placed on three years’ probation for attempted criminal trespass. According to court documents, White broke into a Sharon residence on Dec. 27, 2006.
Bridget Berends, 24, formerly of Glacial Till Road, Grove City, sentenced to 11 1/2 to 23 months in the Mercer County Jail followed by five years’ probation for felony robbery and receiving stolen property. On Dec. 30, 2006, she went into a Kwik Fill gas station at 1650 W. Main St., Pine Township, brandishing a toy gun and wearing a hooded sweat shirt, red bandanna and Spiderman gloves, and demanded money from the male attendant. She and an accomplice threatened to shoot him if he didn’t give them cash. They took $614. She also was apprehended in May 2006 at a North Broad Street Extension address, Pine Township, with a stolen generator valued at 900.
Justin Husband, 26, formerly of Keefer Drive, Mercer, sentenced to 11 1/2 to 23 months in jail followed by four years’ probation for conspiracy to commit robbery and theft by unlawful taking. The robbery conviction was for the December 2006 robbery at the Pine Township Kwik Fill. Court documents state he conspired with Berends to commit the robbery and grabbed the cash from the attendant’s hand.
Douglas Connor, 24, of Pittsburgh, sentenced to four years’ probation for possession of a controlled substance, two counts of disorderly conduct and simple assault. Court documents state Connor, a student at the time at Thiel College in Greenville, was apprehended Jan. 12, 2007, at a college townhouse in possession of 50 Stanozolol tablets, an anabolic steroid. On Feb. 1, 2007, he accused another man of being a snitch and made statements on campus that were intended to terrorize the victim. On Feb. 18, he punched and kicked one man and struck another at the Hilltop Tavern, 25 Conneaut Lake Road, Hempfield Township.
Justin Croney, 21, of Wilmington, Del., also a Thiel student at the time, sentenced to three years’ probation in a related case. He pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct and simple assault. Court documents state he also was apprehended Jan. 12, 2007, in a Thiel townhouse with 50 Stanozolol tablets. And on Feb. 1, he was with Connor when Connor accused another man of being a snitch and remained with him while he made statements intended to terrorize the victim. He also participated in the incident at the Hilltop Tavern.
Aletra Robinson, 35, of Wallis Avenue, Farrell, sentenced to six to 12 months in jail followed by three years’ probation for possession with intent to deliver cocaine and delivery of cocaine. Court documents state she conspired with Leonard Savage to sell cocaine June 21, 2006, on Louisiana Avenue in Farrell.
Leonard Savage, 45, address given as State Correctional Facility, Coal Township, Pa., sentenced to five to 10 years in prison followed by five years’ probation for five counts of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and five counts of delivery of cocaine. Court documents state he sold cocaine on various dates from April to October 2006 in Farrell.
Sharon Shields, 51, formerly of Randolph Street, Meadville, placed on two years’ probation for conspiring with a man to steal less than $200 worth of wire from Damascus Tube in Reynolds Industrial Park, Pymatuning Township.
Roy Bennett, 27, of Spearman Avenue, Farrell, sentenced to 23 days to 23 months in the Mercer County Jail for simple assault and criminal mischief. Court documents state that on April 3, 2007, he broke into an Orange Drive, Hermitage, apartment and punched a woman there in the face. He also did less than $500 damage to a rear door window.
