Tree sap solution

Q. How can I get water with tree sap out of carpet? —K.M., Hartville, Ohio

A. First blot the liquid with a dry, white absorbent cloth or white paper towels, the Carpet and Rug Institute recommends. Then use a nonflammable spot removal solution or a dry-cleaning solvent. Apply a small amount of the solvent with a white cloth, and work it in gently without rubbing. Work from the edges to the center to keep the spot from spreading. Let the solvent remain on the spill a few minutes, then blot.
