Youngstown police looking for man in South Side shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are searching for a man accused of shooting his live-in girlfriend early today.

Police responded to Howard Avenue at 5:25 a.m. on reports of gun shots to find Elmira J. Mendenhall, 29, lying on the bedroom floor face down, shot in the foot and the hip.

She identified the 33-year-old father of her two children as the shooter.

Mendenhall was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she is listed in stable condition. The police report says the shooter was alleged to have fled in a green Ford Taurus.
