Promotion, retirement at air base
Chief Master Sgt. Glus is retiring after 26 years with the 910th and 33 years of military service.
VIENNA — Chief Master Sgt. Troy K. Rhoades, of Canfield, has been promoted to command chief of the Air Force Reserve’s 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.
Rhoades, who will replace retiring Chief Master Sgt. Robert V. Glus Sr., was selected for the position by Col. Karl McGregor, commander of the 910th and the base.
Glus, originally from Erie, Pa., now living in Georgia, will retire at a ceremony to be held in his honor at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hangar 295 at the air station.
Glus, who has been command chief since January 2003, has 26 years with the 910th and a total of 33 years of military service.
As command chief, he advised the commander on matters concerning the health, morale, welfare and the effective utilization of reserve members within the wing, and served as the commander’s representative to numerous committees, councils, boards, and military and civilian functions.
Glus is the senior enlisted member of the 910th. Before joining the Air Force Reserve, he served three years of active duty in the Army.
In January 1982, he came to the 910th as an inventory management specialist. Other assignments at the 910th included chief of supply and fuels, and first sergeant of the 910th Logistics Support and Maintenance Squadrons.
