Nominations being taken for award

YOUNGSTOWN — The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley is accepting names for the Nominate-A-Player Award for the annual Game of Hope Charity Classic held at Youngstown State University.

The Game of Hope Classic is a celebrity/benefit basketball game that benefits actor Paul Newman’s The Hole in the Wall Gang Camps and chronically and/or terminally ill children in the Valley. The event is set for 4 p.m. Jan. 26 in Beeghly Center with the Phi Kappa Tau team playing a team of local celebrities, dignitaries and media personalities from the tri-county area.

The Nominate-A-Player Award is presented to a person who donates his or her time and effort to the Mahoning Valley. The recipient gets to participate in the basketball game on the same team as the local politicians, notables and community leaders. It is a way for the public to recognize what he or she has accomplished.

If you would like to nominate someone for this award, please go to www.thegameofhope.com and click the Nominate-A-Player link in the upper left corner and follow the instructions. All entries must be e-mailed by midnight Thursday.

Game admission is $5.

The Game of Hope has raised nearly $20,000. The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley’s mission is the furtherance of charitable and financial support and volunteer services to and for chronically and/or terminally ill children on a local and regional level.
