Liberty rallies to beat Girard
Newton Falls and Champion also won TAC contests.
LIBERTY — Floyd Showers scored all 12 of his points in Friday’s fourth quarter, including a key 3-pointer that gave the Liberty High basketball team the lead with 3:35 left in a 49-41 win over Girard.
Jamon Wagner added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Leopards while Isaiah Bell also scored 12 in the Trumbull Athletic Conference game. Liberty outscored Girard 17-4 in the fourth quarter.
Brett Cubellis scored 16 points to lead Girard.
Newton Falls 60, Brookfield 38
BROOKFIELD — Cameron McCleary scored 18 points to lead Newton Falls, which took a 19-3 first-quarter lead.
Marcus Fowler added 11 points for the Tigers (5-3, 2-0 TAC).
Ross Latimer scored eight points for Brookfield (2-6, 0-2) while Pat Mulligan added seven points, five rebounds, four blocks and two steals.
Champion 64, LaBrae 46
WARREN — Champion caught fire in the second half and rolled past LaBrae.
The Flashes and Vikings were deadlocked at 22 at halftime, but Champion outscored LaBrae 42-24 in the final two quarters.
Sean Sumner led the Flashes (7-1, 1-1 TAC) with 16 points while Joe Cvengros added 10. Cameron Truss had 15 points for the Vikings (1-7, 0-2).
McDonald 65, Mineral Ridge 48
MCDONALD — McDonald jumped out to a 19-4 first quarter lead and Mineral Ridge was never able to recover.
Adam Streb led the Blue Devils (8-2) with 17 points while Lance Ronghi added 16. Mineral Ridge (4-5) was paced by Cody Graham with 16 points.
South Range 56,
Western Reserve 44
NORTH LIMA — Travis Wisler scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half as South Range rallied from a 25-17 halftime deficit to upend Reserve.
Joe Mihlan added 18 points, including 13 in the second half, for the Raiders (3-8).
Nate Lude and Zach White each scored 10 points for the Blue Devils (4-6).
Springfield 47, Lowellville 42
NEW MIDDLETOWN — Nate Schuler scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Springfield held off a late rally by Lowellville.
Todd Kibby added 14 points for the Tigers (6-3).
Jimmy Sudan led Lowellville (3-6) with 12 points while Mauro Amendola added 11.
Crestview 59, Leetonia 47
COLUMBIANA — Crestview rallied for 24 points in the final quarter and stormed past Leetonia.
Nick Oliver led the Rebels (4-6) with 15 points while Jakob Leon and Mark Einsiedel each added 10.
Josh Selway led Leetonia (3-8) with 12 points.
East Palestine 63,
Jackson-Milton 24
EAST PALESTINE — The Bulldogs never trailed against the Bluejays as they easily improved to 7-3.
Wes Best and Nick DiTello each had 10 points for East Palestine.
Jackson-Milton, now winless in 11 games, was led by Jacob Carlisle with eight points.
Marlington 65, West Branch 52
MARLINGTON — Marlington broke open a close game scoring 27 points in the final quarter to pull past West Branch.
West Branch led 39-38 after three quarters but was outscored 27-13 in the final quarter.
Vic Pappas led West Branch (6-4) with 18 points, while Alex Stull added 10.
Kennedy Catholic 83,
West Middlesex 77
WEST MIDDLESEX — Kyle Randall had 23 points, eight assists and five rebounds to lead Kennedy Catholic, which outscored Middlesex 19-13 in the fourth quarter.
Mike Ponzurick added 24 points, five rebounds and four steals for Kennedy (5-7), while Chace McKinney had 13 points.
Troy Mild had 22 points and Kyle Allen added 11 for West Middlesex.
