Dad, daughter were 1st babies of year

VAN WERT, Ohio (AP) — Some newborns are said to have their dad’s eyes or hair.

Mike Hill shares with his daughter the title of first baby of the new year in their western Ohio county.

Hill’s birth drew attention when he was the first to arrive in Van Wert County in 1983, about 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 2.

Twenty-five years later, Kenna Leigh Hill has taken first-baby honors for her birth Tuesday — Jan. 1 — around 9 p.m. at Van Wert County hospital.

The baby, weighing in at 7 pounds 4 ounces, wasn’t due until Jan. 12, her mother said. Krista Hill hadn’t expected to be in the hospital on New Year’s Day, having a milestone baby, but said she had thought it might be “neat” if their third child decided to come on the 2nd, the same day as her husband.

“At least they’ll have their own birthdays this way,” observed Mike Hill’s father, Dave.
