Shots fired lead to arrests of two teens

YOUNGSTOWN — Two teenage boys were arrested and a gun confiscated after police were sent to the 300 block of East Avondale Avenue to check out a report of shots fired around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

A 15-year-old East Chalmers Avenue boy was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, discharging a firearm in city limits and obstruction of official business. He was caught on East Philadelphia Avenue and told police that both he and his 14-year-old companion had fired the .32-caliber handgun officers found on Rush Boulevard.

The boy said he bought the ammunition for the gun earlier that day at a pawn shop and that he got the gun from someone on the streets. He was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.

The second boy, of East Florida Avenue, was charged with discharging a firearm in city limits and obstructing official business and released to his mother. He was caught near Rush Boulevard.
