Death sentence upheld

COLUMBUS (AP) — The Ohio Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the death sentence for a cab driver who robbed and killed an 86-year-old woman in her apartment.

The court ruled in the case of Roland Davis, 55, convicted and sentenced to death for the 2000 stabbing death of Elizabeth Sheeler, a widowed retired nurse in Newark. Sheeler’s murder went unsolved for four years until DNA evidence found at the crime scene was matched to an FBI database in 2004. Davis was in a Florida prison when the match was made.
