Jessica Simpson to record country album in 2008

That twang that you hear in the air is the sound of Jessica Simpson going Nashville.

Since her marriage to Nick Lachey foundered, Simpson has experienced a series of setbacks on the singing, acting and romantic fronts.

So now, according to Reuters, she’s making that most desperate of career moves: recording a country album, for release this year.

“I think there is a strength in female country artists,” said Simpson, citing Faith Hill and Shania Twain as examples.
