jYoungstown Mayor Jay Williams and his wife, Sonja, are holding a Community Celebration at the Stambaugh Auditorium Ballroom. The evening begins at 6 with a social hour, with dinner to follow. There will be a rodeo at 7:30 p.m. at Sundance Arena in Fredonia, Pa., which is on Route 19, six miles north of Mercer, Pa. In addition to 40 bull riders, there are some interesting-sounding events scheduled, including wild cow milking and bull hockey. Tickets are $10 ($5 for children) and can be purchased at the door. Back in the days before refrigeration was invented, ice was cut from frozen bodies of water and sold for commercial uses. In the Mahoning Valley, Youngstown Ice Co. harvested ice in the early 1900s from Mill Creek and the Mahoning River. Mill Creek MetroParks has put together a program that sheds light on the bygone company. It begins at 1:30 p.m. with a 30-minute presentation at the Davis Educational Center, continues with a walk to see what remains of Youngstown Ice Co., and ends with an optional three-mile hike around Lake Glacier. The program is free to the public.

Theater season resumes Jan. 11 with new offerings at several playhouses. The Oakland Center for the Arts will present the Valley premiere of “In the Moonlight Eddie,” written by Boardman native Jack LoGiudice. Stage Left Players in Lisbon will stage “Seussical, The Musical” and Trumbull New Theatre has “The Cover of Life.”

Tickets are now on sale for “Forever Plaid” at Ford Family Recital Hall on Feb. 22-24 and Feb. 29-March 2. It’s the story of “The Plaids,” a 1950s male singing group whose members are killed in a car crash on their way to a concert. The Plaids are miraculously revived to perform the concert that never was and sing some of the ’50s greatest hits: “Catch a Falling Star,” “Three Coins in the Fountain” and “Love is a Many-Splendored Thing.” in this hilariously nostalgic musical.
