Police charge 2 in disappearance of lighting
AKRON (AP) — Two men have been arrested in the disappearance of some of the landscaping lighting used to brighten downtown Akron.
Police say 40-year-old Guy Wittman is charged with grand theft and vandalism. Detectives say the homeless man told them he sold the lights for about $50 each to a scrap yard owned by the family of 48-year-old Jeffrey Miller of Akron. Miller is charged with receiving stolen property and obstructing justice.
City officials said about 60 lights made with bronze and aluminum were missing in mid-December from planters along Main Street. City spokesman Mark Williamson said the lights were worth about $50,000.
Wittman was being held Tuesday at the Summit County Jail. Detectives said Miller was out on bond.
