YOUNGSTOWN — The highlight of the Dec. 9 Christmas party held by the Emboiderers Guild of America at the Holiday Inn in Boardman was the installation of officers who will head the organization in 2008.

Inducted at the event were Linda Gwinnup, president; Sheryl DelGreco, first vice president; Carole DeWitt, second vice president; Evelyn Wirtz, treasurer; Sally Svoboda, recording secretary; Carol Colarich, assistant recording secretary; and Pat Hray, corresponding secretary. A dinner and ornament exchange completed the holiday event.

Dance to benefit officer

AUSTINTOWN — Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center will be the site of a benefit sock hop from 7-10 p.m. Jan. 19 for an injured Austintown police officer and his family.

Knights of Columbus 3930 will sponsor the dance for Patrolman Ross J. Linert, 48, who was burned over 40 percent of his body in a Nov. 11 crash. BYOB. Set-ups will be provided, and there will be pizza, hot dogs, chips and pretzels.

Also featured will be a D.J., Chinese auction, 50-50 raffle, door prizes and prizes for the best ’50s and ’60s attire. Tickets cost $10 per person. Call Tony Velasco at (330) 799-7751 to reserve tickets.

Garden Club plans
trip to flower show

HOWLAND — The Green Thumb Garden Club of Howland will sponsor a motor coach trip March 3 to 6 to the Philadelphia Flower Show.

In addition to attending one of the largest flower shows in the world, guests will visit Longwood Gardens and the Dupont Home, where dinner will be in the gardens; visit historic sites and museums in Philadelphia with dinner at the City Tavern; and shop in the area with dinner at the Oakhurst Tea Room. The tour includes three breakfasts, three dinners, all admissions, rooms at the Holiday Inn, and an escort. The cost is $589 per person, and a $200 deposit is required. Fisherman’s Swap Meet

NEW PHILADELPHIA — The 23rd annual Fisherman’s Swap Meet will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 27 at New Philadelphia Elks Lodge 510, 1180 Union Ave., New Philadelphia. Admission will be $5 for adults, and children 7 or under will be admitted free.
