NHL Roundup - Monday’s games

Blue Jackets 4, Oilers 2

COLUMBUS — Rick Nash scored three times to break out of a goal-scoring slump as Columbus beat Edmonton. Jiri Novotny had a goal and Nikolai Zherdev two assists for the Blue Jackets, who have won three straight at home. Edmonton’s Ethan Moreau had his first goal in his second game back from a shoulder injury suffered last October. Steve Staios also scored for the Oilers, who fell to 0-4-2 in the past six games. Nash, who hadn’t scored a goal in eight games dating back to a two-goal performance on Dec. 5, was on the right side of the net when defenseman Duvie Westcott’s shot dribbled his way. Nash went to his backhand and slid the puck past goalie Dwayne Roloson with 3:21 left in the game for his 20th goal of the season. Nash scored a short-handed goal in the second period to give the Blue Jackets a 2-1 lead, and added an empty-netter with seven seconds left. Pascal Leclaire had 26 saves for Columbus to improve to 13-7-3. Roloson had 29 saves in the loss.

Bruins 5, Thrashers 2

BOSTON — Mark Stuart broke a tie in the second period and Phil Kessel and Matt Lashoff added insurance goals in the third as Boston ended a six-game skid. Boston’s first goal of the game — a power-play score by Dennis Wideman — was the team’s 18,000th, making the Bruins the second NHL team to reach that mark. Montreal has 18,886. P.J. Axelsson also scored for the Bruins, who were winless with one shootout loss (0-5-1) in their previous six games. Colin Stuart — brother of Boston’s Mark — scored his first NHL goal for Atlanta in just his second career game. Bobby Holik also scored for the Thrashers. Manny Legace stops 31 shots in Blues’ 2-0 win over Red Wings

Blues 2, Red Wings 0

DETROIT — Manny Legace made 31 saves for his 20th career shutout to lift St. Louis over Detroit. It was the first time Detroit, winners of 14 of its last 16 games, was held scoreless this season. St. Louis snapped a four-game losing streak. Erik Johnson and Lee Stempniak scored for the Blues. Legace, who played with the Red Wings from 1999-2000 until 2005-06, stopped Jiri Hudler on a breakaway with 8:05 left. Dominik Hasek made 22 saves for the Red Wings.

Sharks 3, Wild 2

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Joe Thornton and Milan Michalek each had a pair of assists as San Jose made a mark in the NHL record book with their 10th consecutive road win. Steve Bernier, Kyle McLaren and Jonathan Cheechoo scored for the Sharks, who last lost a road game on Nov. 9, and are now tied with four other teams for second on the NHL’s list for consecutive road wins. Detroit won 12 straight on the road in March and April, 2006. Evgeni Nabokov had 19 saves in the victory. Minnesota, which had won six of its previous eight games, trailed 2-0 after two periods, but tied the game on goals by Dominic Moore and Mark Parrish. Just 10 seconds after Parrish knotted the game, Cheechoo scored the game-winner to quiet the sellout crowd.

Islanders 4, Hurricanes 1

RALEIGH, N.C. — Marc-Andre Bergeron had two goals and an assist, and New York scored three goals in a 3:39 stretch to beat Carolina. Bill Guerin and Ruslan Fedotenko also scored and Mike Comrie added two assists for the Islanders. Craig Adams scored for Carolina.

Coyotes 4, Avalanche 3, SO

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Peter Mueller and Radim Vrbata scored in a shootout to give Phoenix the victory over Colorado. After the Avs’ Wojtek Wolski failed to record a shot in the shootout, Mueller scored on a wrist shot past goalie Peter Budaj. Coyotes goalie Ilya Bryzgalov then stopped Marek Svatos, and when Vrbata scored on a backhand, the Coyotes picked up two standing points.
