Trumbull Democrats file complaint against Smith

WARREN — Leadership of the Trumbull County Democratic Party has filed a complaint with the Ohio Elections Commission about a flier being circulated by Randy Smith, a candidate for county engineer in Tuesday’s primary.

The flyer refers to Smith, of Hartford, county engineer’s deputy director, as “Your Endorsed Democratic Engineer.” Chris Michelakis, county party chairman, and Ralph Infante, vice chairman, allege in a Friday letter to the commission that the flier is illegal.

They pointed out that Smith is not endorsed by the county party and that he is not the county engineer. He has been endorsed by the Trumbull County Township Association. Smith is running against David DeChristofaro of Niles, the party’s endorsed candidate.
