The Oakland Center for the Arts, 220 W. Boardman St., Downtown Youngstown, is holding The Stage once again. It’s an open mic night with all manner of performances. The event, which begins at 8, will include a farewell show by country singer BJ O’Malley, who is about to leave Youngstown for Nashville. Also scheduled is Matt Palka, who will sing while artist Karen Wennberg paints; novelist Chris Barzak, Mona Lis, Real Time Digi Mob, Dr. Ray’s Amazing Sideshow of Science, and more. Admission is $5. Anyone who’d like to perform can pre-register at myspace.com/oaklandcenter, or just show up at 7 p.m.

It’s opening night at two community theaters.

The curtain goes up at 8 p.m. at the Youngstown Playhouse, who are presenting the military courtroom drama “A Few Good Men.” Additional show times this weekend are 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
