A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Feb. 21

Drugs: Police said they smelled suspected marijuana in a vehicle on East Park Avenue. In the car were a Girard man and a 16-year-old Youngstown boy; no arrests were made.

Burglary: A South Main Street woman told police she awoke to hear someone in her residence.

Arrest: Officers picked up a Hubbard man at the Mahoning County Jail who was wanted on a theft charge from the township.

Feb. 22

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed eggs at a car on Princeton Avenue.

Feb. 23

Criminal mischief: A Jerry Drive man reported eggs having been thrown at a woman’s vehicle.

Feb. 24

Theft: The Girard Municipal Court issued a warrant for a West Liberty Street man charging him with failure to appear in court to face one count of theft.

LIBERTY

Feb. 22

Trespassing/damaging: Authorities received a report of a suspicious person near Tibbetts-Wick Road and arrested the 19-year-old McDonald man on Shannon Road. He was charged with criminal damaging and criminal trespassing after a resident noticed a broken garage window. A stolen bicycle from the home was recovered.

Fraud: A Warren man discovered his debit card had been used without permission to charge $153.47 worth of services at a Belmont Avenue motel.

Theft: The driver of a gold or tan vehicle left a BP station, 2703 Belmont Ave., without paying for $45 worth of gasoline.

Robbery: Police took custody of a 29-year-old Niles man at the Mahoning County Jail who was wanted on a warrant from the township charging him with the crime.

Identity theft: A township man checked his account and discovered two fraudulent transactions totaling $200 had been made, likely over the Internet.

Drug paraphernalia: After being pulled over in the 4900 block of Belmont Avenue, a 39-year-old man, no city listed, was charged when police said he admitted a suspected marijuana pipe in the vehicle was his.

Criminal damaging: A Green Acres Drive man reported someone likely used a BB gun to damage a front-window pane and siding on his home. Total damage came to $500.

Theft: A motorist pumped and failed to pay for $25 worth of gasoline before leaving a BP station.

Domestic violence: A 24-year-old Hadley Avenue man was arrested at his apartment and charged after police got a 911 call regarding a disturbance. A woman alleged he punched her in the head, and officers said she had a lump in the affected area.

Feb. 23

Drugs: A Youngstown man, 50, faced charges of possession of heroin, drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia, as well as having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, after a traffic stop near Colonial Drive. Two small bags of suspected heroin and hypodermic needles were found, police said.

Identity theft: A Church Hill-Hubbard Road man told police a retail chain store had contacted him about someone claiming to be the victim, and that the impostor tried to use the accuser’s Social Security number to change a billing address.

Theft: A Warren woman’s purse was stolen as she shopped at a Belmont Avenue store.

Feb. 24

Breaking and entering: Someone forced open a garage door and gained entry to a vacant Keefer Road residence. Nothing was stolen, though.

Breaking and entering: A Biscayne Drive woman found that a front door to the residence had been jimmied open, and that copper piping was missing.

Feb. 25

Criminal damaging: A rental unit’s door was smashed at E-Z Self Storage, 1335 Trumbull Ave. Damage was estimated at $250.

Drugs: A Monticello Drive man noticed that an envelope had been placed under his door and, after opening it, found what appeared to be a bag of suspected marijuana inside

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 4000 block of Belmont Avenue resulted in the arrests of a Warren man, 24, and a Youngstown man, 27, when authorities said they found a small bag of suspected crack cocaine, another bag with a white powder and a suspected crack pipe. The younger man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia; the other man faced charges of drug abuse and falsification when, police said, he gave a false name.

GIRARD

Feb. 22

Auto theft: A Beechwood Drive woman accused a Youngstown man, 22, of taking her 1999 Pontiac Sunfire.

Arrests: Two Warren men, 45 and 68, were taken into custody after being stopped on Church Hill Road. One man was charged with driving under suspension, the other with falsification when, police said, he provided two false Social Security numbers to avoid being arrested on warrants, one of which charged him with probation violation.

Feb. 23

Criminal damaging: An East Kline Street woman discovered that two tires on her husband’s vehicle had been slashed and that a neighbor’s car suffered a similar fate.

Breaking and entering: Someone forced open the door to a vacant home in the 200 block of East Kline Street and removed copper plumbing.

Feb. 24

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: An Elruth Court man accused his 23-year-old daughter of taking his 2006 Chevrolet without permission.

Breaking and entering/damage: A man making repairs to a Joan Avenue residence reported the home had been entered and copper plumbing was stolen. Additional piping was removed, damaging the basement.

Assault: A Girard boy reported that while walking with friends near Morris Avenue, a 16-year-old boy threw the accuser to the ground and punched him in the back of the head. The victim was injured.

Feb. 25

Arrest: A Youngstown man, 35, was arrested on South State Street on charges of menacing by stalking and criminal trespassing. Earlier, a Girard woman alleged he continually banged on her door and windows, and made unwanted calls to her residence.
