Man dies in fall from bridge in Mill Creek Park

YOUNGSTOWN — A man died after being found in an icy stream near Lanterman’s Falls in Mill Creek Park early today, a coroner’s investigator said.

Brian J. Zarconi, 25, of Austintown was pulled from the water by park police around 1 a.m. and then taken up a steep bank by firefighters, police said. Firefighters covered the victim with a fire coat, checked for vital signs and started CPR but got no response. An ambulance crew took over and transported him to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Rick Jamrozik, a coroner’s investigator, said Zarconi was dead on arrival at St. Elizabeth Health Center. He was pronounced dead at 2:59 a.m.

Jamrozik said an autopsy will be done but a preliminary review indicates the death was an apparent suicide. He said Zarconi apparently jumped from the Canfield Road bridge that spans the water.

His car was towed from the scene.
