COLUMBUS — Brookfield’s Tyler Thompson and Eric Crabtree of Wellsville won their first-round matches at the Division III state wrestling tournament Thursday.

Thompson, a sophomore, improved to 36-10 with a pin in 1 minute, 20 seconds of David Harrington of Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic. Thompson will next face Spencer Pierce (36-1) of Richwood North Union in a quarterfinal-round match Friday.

Crabtree defeated Nick Chmura of Oberlin, 17-4, at 189 pounds. Crabtree (44-9), a junior, next faces Nathan Jones (40-5) of Troy Christian in the quarterfinals Friday.

Santino Pizzuto (112) of Jackson-Milton, Dan Miller (130) of Brookfield and Beau Bowden (171) of South Range lost their first- and second-round matches and were eliminated from the tournament.
