California drops SRU


CALIFORNIA, Pa. — Slippery Rock was denied sole possession of fourth place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division standings Wednesday night as it dropped a 68-54 decision at division-leading California U. of Pa.

But the Green and White remain alive in their quest for SRU’s first PSAC playoff berth since the 1999-2000 season.

SRU and Indiana remained tied for the fourth and final PSAC-West playoff berth as IUP lost a 72-62 decision Wednesday night at Shippensburg. The Rock (7-19, 4-7 PSAC-West) needs a win Saturday over Clarion and an IUP loss to Lock Haven to earn the playoff berth.

Ohio Wesleyan 84, Hiram 66

DELAWARE, Ohio — Seventh-seeded Hiram was no match for second-seeded Ohio Wesleyan University in a North Coast Athletic Conference quarterfinal game at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Bishops (18-7) were led by Jesse Jean with game-highs of 23 points and 19 rebounds. Hiram was led by freshman forward Hassan Muhammed with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting (53.3 percent). He also grabbed seven rebounds.

Senior forward Mike McDevitt (Lisbon) ends his career with 1,021 points and finishes 19th on the Hiram all-time scoring list. He also grabbed 474 career rebounds to place 10th all-time. Chuck Williams (Lakeview) ends his career with 538 points with 119 career triples with a 34.4 lifetime shooting percentage (119-of-346) from behind the arc.

Women

California (Pa.) 82, Slippery Rock 58

CALIFORNIA, Pa. — Brooque Williams scored a game-high 24 points, leading California (21-5, 8-3) past Slippery Rock.

Lindsay Johnson (Springfield) added 11. KellyAnn Staudinger and Julie Molloy led the way for the Rock, who shot 53.8 percent from the field, with 15 and 16 points respectively.

Ohio Wesleyan 94, Hiram 49

DELAWARE, OHIO — Seventh-seeded Hiram lost to No. 2 seed Ohio Wesleyan University in a NCAC quarterfinal game.

Stephanie Zunic (Canfield) scored 10 points for the Terriers.
