Township layoffs

Township trustees announced the layoffs of 30 full-time and 12 part-time employees as a step to balancing the township’s budget. The numbers could be reduced if unions reopen their contracts and make concessions. The numbers, by department, without concessions:

Fire: Nine of the department’s 39 full-time firefighters, fire chief’s secretary,

all nine volunteer firefighters who are paid when they respond.

Police: Support services manager, two social services case managers, one records clerk, one crime analyst and two custodians.

Road: Thirteen of 27 union employees including three mechanics, drivers and laborers.

Zoning: One part-time field inspector.

Other: Part-time receptionist and part-time microfilm clerk.
