Private prison guard checked after being sprayed

YOUNGSTOWN — Yellow fluid squirted on a corrections officer from an inmate’s shampoo bottle smelled like urine, the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center guard told police. The corrections officer said he was passing a shower when the fluid sprayed into his face, eyes and mouth and on his uniform around 7:30 p.m. Monday. The guard was checked out by a nurse at the private prison on Hubbard Road and then went to a hospital for further treatment. City Prosecutor Jay Macejko said the prison will handle the matter internally. The prison houses federal inmates.
