Obama, Clinton reps to speak at JCC

YOUNGSTOWN — A senior adviser to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and a former U.S. ambassador to Romania, who is supporting Barack Obama, will discuss issues of concern to the Jewish community at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane.

Alfred H. Moses, who supports Obama, was appointed ambassador to Romania in 1994 by then-President Clinton. He served three years in that position and served as Clinton’s special presidential envoy to Cyprus.

During the 1970s, Moses represented the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations in negotiations with Romania to facilitate the emigration of Romanian Jews to Israel. He was also the president of the American Jewish Committee from 1991 to 1994, resigning to become ambassador.

He is now senior counsel in the Washington, D.C., office of the Covington & Burling international law firm.

Ann Lewis, a senior adviser for Clinton, also served as director of communications for Clinton’s political action committee and her campaign fund from 2005 to 2007.

From 1997 to 2000, she served as director of communications and then as counselor to President Clinton. She also was the director of communication and deputy campaign manager for the Clinton-Gore Re-election Campaign in 1995 and 1996.

Lewis also served as senior adviser to the U.S. Senate campaign of Hillary Clinton in 2000, and as national chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee Women’s Vote Center from 2003 to 2004.

Lewis served on the advisory committee for the book “Jews and American Politics,” and is a member of the board of the Jewish Women’s Archive.
