Gunther plea time line


A time line of criminal activity involving William K. Gunther, formerly of Cortland, charged in the 1994 rape and murder of Priscilla I. Code, 48, of Warren.

Jan. 15, 1994: Code’s body is found on Peerless Street in southwest Warren. She had been shot multiple times and raped.

October 1998: Gunther is convicted in Trumbull County of felonious assault with a gun specification in an unrelated case and sent to prison.

April 2, 2004: Gunther is released from state prison.

Jan. 25, 2007: Gunther is secretly indicted by a Trumbull County grand jury after a national computer database brought up a hit that led to his identity as a suspect in Code’s death. Gunther is arrested in Miami on rape and murder charges. He waives extradition.

Feb. 7, 2007: Gunther returns to Trumbull County under escort and is placed in county jail, where he remains.

Feb. 9, 2007: Gunther pleads innocent to rape and murder and is held on $500,000 bond.

Feb. 25, 2008: Gunther pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter. Sentenced to 13 to 28 years in prison. He will serve a minimum of 10 years.
